It is important that you protect your system using fuses and cut-off switches where needed, mainly between solar panels and solar controller, between solar controller and batteries, between batteries and inverter and continue on to the ac system.

The solar system produces a large amount of power which is stored in batteries. It is critical that you treat this with respect, mistakes can be fatal. Keep metal away from batteries, earth everything, and disconnect power before attempting maintenance, repairs, etc.
